Rawlio's Worldcast Broadcasts Again!

Y'know, I need to figure out a way to have it automatically update on the sidebar here. I guess I need to have a small RSS feed on this?

Is that possible?

Aw, Man. Maybe I need to figure out some coding. Ugh.

Memories of Apples (not a Mac Vs. PC rant)

So, I think I'm back on Apples. A few years ago (maybe 2) I gave up eating apples. I had eaten about 3 apples a day for about 3 years.

When I do the math:

180 days (give or take me on holidays, etc) X 3 apples a day = 540 apples.

540 apples a year X 3 years = 1620 apples.

now, sometimes on weekends, I would eat apples So, let's say in 3 years, I've eaten another 300 apples on the side (snacks, weekends, trips, etc.).

1920 apples.

Yes, I gave up apples for 2 years.

But today, I brought a Gala Apple, and boy, was it good.

Interesting Phenomenon.

I went out to see Brad on Friday night. Actually, part of the night is on the Podcast, so if you haven't listened to it, don't worry.

The part I want to talk about here is the idea of life. To give a bit of a background, I was out with Brad, Ji-Hye, Ady and Ben. I went to school with Ady, and she's a pretty intelligent person, not because she's a lawyer, but just in general.

We got on the subject of children, and our ages. Given, we are all within 2 years of each other, we still all act and feel like we're in our early 20's. (I say this to not divulge on information that others would not want people to have.)

Ady pointed out that out of all our our friends, none of us have children. In fact, all of us waited until a lot later to have children. Sarah Newby had a baby before us, but she was always a bit ahead of us.

I never realized that. We tried to figure out why this was. Was it because we were not mature enough? Was it because we wanted to do things before settling down? Did we want to be ready to settle down before we did in fact settle down?

Yes, Brad bought property before all of us. Ady, Steve, Mark and I went back to school. We worked before doing things. And now we're done our post-secondary schooling, we're still maybe on the cusp of settling down.

Brad's getting married, I'm getting a house, Steve Little's thinking about a family. I'm not sure about Ady. There was mention of children, which seemed to get a look from Ben. I'll do some more investigation into that.

Again, is it our generation? Is it our group? What is it with us? Sure, there is no "normal" in this day in age, but it is interesting that we all seem to have followed a similar path?

Just something to think about.

Yeah, I'm starting to feel old. Not in a bad way, but maybe more of my age.

What's New Rawlycat?

I'm not leaving the blogsphere, but just busy with the podcast and other things.

I'm back at the gym, which is nice, so I get home, edit and upload my podcast, and kick to bed. usually my ideas for my blog get put on the podcast, but tonight, I'll have to pass.

There's a new podcast up, in case you're wondering.

And Sean's got some sad news (or happy, depending upon what point of view you have). But he's wondering if anyone wants to go to the Police Concert in the Summer. I volunteered!

I hope they don't play Roxanne...

New Podcast...

if you're wondering.

Yeah, body talk is weird...

Monday, April 23, 2007

There's a worldcast up.

I would type something and make it poignant, but I'm not sure if it's not said in the podcast.

By the way, it's a true "Rawlio's Worldcast", from the car.

Oh, so, Body talk? I wasn't really going for the whole 'body language' aspect, but I appreciate the comments made.

Body talk is :
...an astonishingly simple and effective form of therapy that allows the body's energy systems to be re-synchronized so that they can operate as nature intended. Each system, cell and atom is in constant communication with each other at all times. Through exposure to the stresses of day-to-day life, these lines of communication become compromised, which then leads to a decline in physical, emotional and/or mental health. Reconnecting these lines of communication then enables the body's mechanisms to function at optimal levels, thus preventing disease and rapidly accelerating the healing process. BodyTalk can be used as a stand-alone system to treat many health problems, or seamlessly integrated into any health care system to increase its effectiveness and promote faster healing.

My Dad's neighbour is studying it, and she needs clients to practice on. It's very holistic and New Age-y. I'm still quite skeptical. But she asked if she could practice on me as part of her hours for certification.

If you're interested, check out the website : The International BodyTalk Association.

I know I'll get flamed for this.

Weekend of Family...

Just as an update, Linda came with me to see my family. I had to go to waterloo to do some errands for my brother, and then I decide to see my Cousin Ryan and his girlfriend Marty.

They have 2 cool greyhounds that they rescued from an agency. These dogs were race dogs that outlived thier careers, and were destined to be destroyed. They're really nice, easy going, and really good looking dogs.

AFter that, Linda and I visited my uncles and aunts who live in Milton. After some food and drinks, we came home to go to a birthday party.

This party was Linda's Brother's Girlfriend. Her name is Brie. I often make reference to the cheese, which apparently I'm not that original.

Again, I will beat the proverbial horse to a bloody pulp.

Any interesesting thoughts? Body talk. Does it really work? what's that about?

Not sure. i'm still doing some research about it.

New Podcast.
Just to let you know, there's a new Worldcast.

Check it out..

Favours...

This is an interesting non-corporeal thing that I think about.

When I do someone a favour, I am owed one. And someone does me a favour, I'm obliged to pay it back.

I'm not really sure where I want to go with this blog, as it's a bit of a touchy subject. I think the main problem with this issue is that people use the world 'favour' interchanagbly with 'help.'

If someone asks for help, you do because want to help. You don't expect something in return. But if someone asks you for a favour, it's understood that you get a favour back.

Again, I'm gonna stop here. I'm not sure what I want to say.

Rawlio's Worldcast.

Now the Webcast is launched (but not officially), I'm having some difficlutly on staying on the orignial plan of what the podcast was for.

It's more of the Audio-remblings of my blog. Which is ok with me.

Anyway, I was thinking about this at the gym. Just read and enjoy this:

(Rawl's conversation with his Blog)

Rawl: Hey blog, I'm ready to type soemthing

Blog: oh no...not again. Do you realize how boring you've become?

Rawl: Yes, yes..I know. My blog has been a bid bland for a bit, but when I look through the archives, there's no 'month' with tripe...

Blog: Are you kidding? You had some good ideas, but not really anything. Espeically now with the Podcast. That may be the death of me.

Rawl: Naw, I'll get the podcast here soon. I'm still experimenting.

Blog: What?!? Seriously? I've enjoyed being silent for over 3 years, now I'm going to be heard? You can't do that to me!!!

Rawl: ..um....who's in control here? Isn't me who has the power to delete you from the face of Cyberspace?

Blog: Fine, fine. Post what you want. I'm wathing you.

Rawl: Are you threatning me?

Blog: ...

Rawl: That's what I thought. Now get back to work.

Blog: This isn't the last you've heard from me!!!

Rawl: I know. The worlcast is going to be coming soon.

Blog: Blah, blah blah. you've been whining about updating this page for years....you make idle threats. And even cryptic entries about the awful life you live.

Rawl: Blog...I'm warning you...

Blog: What? it's a free country. And if it's not, I'll redirect myself to a country that's free.

Rawl: Fine. what do you say we call a truce?

Blog: Sure, but I really have no power. Blogger and your ISP hosting rawl.ca is in control.

Rawl: I know

Paying Lip Service

In my job, I'm paid more lip service than usual. Not going into real detail, I encounter people who constantly pay me lip service. I am paid to do the best I can do with the resources and knowledge that I have (like most people). However, when you give your professional opinion, you get in trouble.

I try to help people, but I'm told that they'll do what I suggest and then not do it.

Honestly, I say that I just give an opinion. I pay the lip service to say that it is up to that person to follow my advice or not. I really want that person to listen to me, or roughly follow what I say.

I don't often give out advice that I feel will help or benefit someone, but when I feel strongly, I truly want that person to listen.

If i truly didn't care, I wouldn't have even wasted my breath. I sometimems think I do care too much as I get depressed at how people treat each other.

Sure, it's been happening for eternity and that it's just the way life seems to be. Why can't we all just get along? And I am afraid to actually say that because it's been used and overused in the wrong situations.

If we actually did watch out for each other, not wanting something in return (except for them to watch out for us) we would all be better off. I help people in hopes that I would get the favour returned somewhwere down the road. Again, I make reference to the Great Karmic Machine that I do believe runs relentless, keeping tabs on all of us.

I'm just ranting.

New LCD

Holy Crap..

I never realized how crappy my 17" moniter for my PC was. Linda and I were in a Computer store, and they were selling their LCD moniters for a rediculsly low price, so we got a demo model of a 19" Samsung.

It's beautiful, and takes up so little room.

Sweet.

oh, and I got a headset. New test podcast....

Customer Service Seems shaky.

So, I went to my bank to start the mortgage process of withdrawing my RRSPs under the new Home buyers Plan. I went a few weeks ago, and was told that I had to have an application that I had to download and print myself from the Internet. IT seemed that a financial company as large as my bank didn't have access nor any copies of this form.

It seems that this would be something that they would want to promote, now wouldn't it?

Anyway, so i went in today to get the forms filled out and I encounter the same woman from a few weeks back. I said I wanted to see someone to have this form filled out to get my money. She told me that I had to see my "Financial advisor", and that he was booked solid for the day, and the soonest I could see him is April 24Th.

I know there are banks all over, and all of them are in competition to get my money. If I needed something done quickly, it seems that I have to have my life put on hold for this guy who's going on vacation next week. Why is that?

The woman then said that I could come on Saturday and have this filled out by someone else, but it's a "first come first serve" basis.

I was a little upset, and she could see that. I wanted to ask her why is this the policy for the back, and that this seemed pretty backwards. I know that banks are fazing out tellers, and they want people to utilize the online banking (which I've been doing for years now!), but when you need to see someone, why is it that you have to wait over 2 weeks? Wouldn't the bank have someone else just as qualified to do the same job?

I told her when I was moving, and that I wanted to have this filled out. She told me that it only takes 48 hours to process, and if I filled it out today, it would be processed for the next 2 business days. She suggested I wait until closer to the time. This calmed me down a bit, but still, it left a weird taste in my mouth (and not from the dentist before this encounter).

I dunno. Maybe banks don't care. I used to think think my bank was pretty cool, and that they liked me. Maybe they don't. Maybe I just make money for them, and they want little to do with me.

Ugh, frustrating.

Facebook - What's up with it? (or: Why i don't want to join...)

So, it seems that my friends have been hit by a plague called "facebook." If you're not sure what facebook is, it's a pervasive online social networking site, where you can sign up and find your friends. What's interesting about facebook is that you can see who your friends know, so you can track people back a long time ago.

I hear about people getting lost in the Facebook world, spending hours upon hours updating, looking and contacting their friends.

Linda's friend let me use her log in to surf around to see what's up. At first, it seems quite harmless. I have to admit, I did find some friends I've not seen in over 20 years, so it's not bad.

Well, is it bad? I'm not sure. I actually don't want to join facebook, only for the reason of being one of the last people to join. And that would be in the event that I'm kicking and screaming, with a giant gun to my head and someone forcing my fingers to type on my lil' iBook.

Yeah, I know. There's not really a good reason, save for the fact that I don't really want to join.*

And that's what is lost in today's world. It seems that a reason for not wanting to do something that you really don't want it doesn't seem to be a good reason. I figure that's the most important reason. With our level of choice in today's world, it seems that we're really going on the whim of wanting and not wanting.

I even have a rant about Walmart and it's new Superstore that I went to on Monday, but I'll save that for another time.

* Ok, the real reason for not joining is that it's not really a good thing for me to do in my profession. I have actually never said what I do for a living on this blog, but if you know me, you know what I do. It's safer for me not to be on a site where anybody can look my profile up and see what friends I have. Again, it seems a bit too much of an invasion of privacy. I don't like shoeing people my address book, why would I post it publicly? Fair enough?

Problem Solved. (which leads to another problem)

Isn't that always the way? You beat yourself up to figure out something and get it, only to presented with another problem after?

That's where I am in my goal for a podcast. However, the 2nd problem is not one of mechanics, but more of aesthetics.

Which may lead to my next thought: How important is Aesthetics?

Y'know, let's not discuss that here. I'm not exactly down on what I think. However, I was reading about this topic today, which I find completely amusing:

Designer Signs of the Times

(from the Toronto Star)

That's what the sign is from. Apparently an Artist has been going around Toronto putting up fake signs that make reference to the homeless problem and how out of touch we are with reality.

As for homeless people and giving money to people who pan-handle; I am still not sure on where I stand. I give when I can. My friends make fun of me, but I can't see how giving a dollar here or there will really kill me. Sure, these people may be doing this for money, but what about those who are legitimately poor, and need these coffers to survive? I keep coming back to the notion that it is not for me to judge, but to help where I can. If the person I am giving some of my change to is doing it because they are lazy, who am I to sort that out? I figure that in the end, it all works out. Yeah, the Karmic machine keeps on rolling.

Aesthetics? Naw. Problem solved? Maybe. Homeless? Yup, still a problem.

What now?

Well, as I begin my foray into Podcasting, I'm hit with what most people who try to do things are hit with: Troubleshooting.

So, I want to talk about troubleshooting. Basically, it's the idea on sorting out all the 'bugs' one hits when trying to do something. Computers are renowned for having lots of bugs. Organizing events happen in which you must troubleshoot.

I would like to say that I'm not bad at troubleshooting, but once in a while I get stuck.

I'm basically hitting my head on the proverbial Podcast wall. Damn.

OK, not much on troubleshooting, just venting.

Damn. Damn damn!
