The 11th hour...

Just what's been going on?

It's pretty much Summer vacation. I am on my PC at home, which seems to be slowing down. It must be summer. it's a old P2, which would explain it. Damn old computer. I seem to need to close some windows to get it to not slug....

Ewww..

I'm going to rant about some people I had to deal with over the past few days. I had to do a report on the performance of someone, and it wasn't taken well. I've had to defend my evaluation practices before, but never to someone who didn't want to listen. They would bring up issues they wanted me to address but would not give me a chance to explain. When I wrote down all the issues on the table (not literally, but that would have been funny), I asked the person which ones would they want to address.

They looked at me, and started on something else. I had to stop the person, and ask them to clarify what they wanted to accomplish with this meeting. It was justification for the how I evaluated. I said that I must adhere to strict policies, and that if they were to examine them, they would see that I was far too generous. This didn't please them. After about 25 minutes of this 'back and forth', i hit the issue on the table. The person in questions was not all that forthcoming with their work habits, and I had to explain about things that was not mentioned to the person who was arguing with me.

After that, I think she realized that she came after me with nothing. And this was the last day of a project. She wanted me to re-open this to accommodate her. I was already prepared to close up the project for the summer, and start another one.

This was Wednesday. Thursday, one the last day of the project, she came back with another separate issue which she wanted myself and my manager to sort out. Again, with all parties involved gone because the contract was over, it was hard to place 'blame' or responsibility too.

right at the last hour. Why couldn't I get away ?

well, I'm kicking to Linda's cottage tis weekend, to try to decompress. I hope to be able to do so.

Have a Happy Canada Day to you all!

Time and Space, and the Laundry room.

I know how Sean feels. Living in Guildwood, it almost feels like time has stood still. There are a large number of older people, who really in fact don't have time really pass as fast for them as anyone else which could factor into the whole thing.

Let us examine Sean's problem: He sets his laundry for 60 minutes. Which means that if he then syncronizes his wristwatch to the same 60 minutes, he should be able to return in 60 minutes with his laundry done. However, he's tried it where if he timed it properly, he would come as it finishes. If it takes you 3 minutes to get from your apartment to the laundry room, one would surpass that you could leave with only 3 minutes left of your laundry, you should be ok in your arrival.

However, Sean has expressed that there seems to be a discrepancy about his time arrival, his watch and the time timer on the machine. Experiencing this when I lived in the Guild, I came up with this idea: With a lot of older people living in a concentrated area, you get disturbances in the time-space continuum.

My theory goes as such: when you are 80 years old, one year is only 1/80 of your total life. The time is shorter. When you are 2, 1 year is is 1/2 your life.

so, the washing machine wanting to clean the clothes well, needs to have a certain amount of time to clean. that being said, the Washing machine creates a time -disturbance in the local time-space continuum to allow for the weird anomalies it experiences with older people. It has to slow time to account for the quick passage of time older people carry with them.

Again, we'll have to see if this holds up with an atomic clock, or a bunch of old people going near the speed of light with their left blinkers on, in a universal vacuum sealed Laundry room.

Sounds like a party to me!

Oh, a fw new podcasts!

The Storm, Dragon boat and Last night

Steve and Jen came over last night. It was nice. They hung out and we chatted. We fashioned some type of chair and table for our yard and had a nice relaxing chat.

Little did they know, Linda and I were in the garden previous for the past 2 hours digging out the weeds. Holy smokes did the old woman not do any work.

The garden could have been beautiful, but being overgrown with weeds, it's not a good thing.

And there's an impending storm. I looked on the weather network, and there is no clouds, but the wind and the feel has the 'storm' kinda look.

Who knows?

And Jasse's back from Copenhagen. Him and the family.

I should really type something deep and whatever...I know, next post...

Priorities

Y'know, I'm supposed to go to dragon boat tonight for practice. I really want to. One of Linda's friend's father has passed away and we're going to go to the viewing.

I know that I would rather go to practice, but paying respect to a friend's loved one supersedes that desire. I'm not being forced nor am I upset that I'm not going. It's just an interesting thing to think about. Besides, it doesn't happen everyday (thank the higher power of your choice).

But knowing what priorities you have helps to sort out your life. Again, with the house, there are the priorities and the things that would be nice to do.

A new furnace is a priority. Again, is it really a priority on a hot stinkin' day like today? Well, it's better to get that over with than deal with it in the winter when I really need it.

Again, Priorities.

Andrew: MMW - 2 weeks!

Sean, is that short enough?

Wind and fences and ants, oh my.

So, tonight was a huge windstorm. There was a lot of rain, and yes, wind.

Linda and I got home, and we saw many branches down around our property so we decided to go inside. Since this was our first real bad storm, I put on my rain gear to see how the house was reacting. I wanted to make sure the eves troughs were working and such, so I wandered around the house.

Lo and behold; our fence in the backyard was blown down. Damn.

My first thought: Ants; they got me, the bastards.

Nope. Upon further inspection, the old people who installed the fence just drove the posts into the ground. No support, no foundation, nothing.

It was only really a matter of time before those posts gave way. Rot. Not ants. Rot.

Darn-fangled Ants...I want another reason to go after you.

Rich suggested hot water. I'm getting water ready as we speak.

Sean suggests the powder to take back to your queen. Not sure. I want to take the queen on myself.

And It seems the Wasps may be back. i found a little nest where I first destroyed a wasps nest. You're back too, my old friend.

Rawl vs. the ants & wasps.

It's gonna be a long summer.

Rawlio Vs. the Ants. Part I & II.

This battle has taken a break over the past few days. Here's a recap of the situation:

One Saturday morning, it was moist and warm outside. The humidity made it for an uncomfortable day outside. I was going to the backyard via the side walkway and noticed piles of sand extracted from the Interlock.

"damn...they've been busy" I think to myself. I survey the situation. I noticed 4 piles. The equivalent of the Rockies to the ants. It was almost like a Mountain terrain.

I recall about a week ago taking care of their Mount Vesuvius from the side of the house.

Not having the proper tools still (damn HD, they ran out...) I had to rely on my back-up: Weed killer.

Ant. Weed. Makes no difference to the bottle. It's main Purpose: Kill. Take no survivors. Leave only bodies.

I set the bottle to stream (as mist is just slow and painful- I'm feeling soft today), and take aim for the ant holes.

Spray! One hole filled. Spray. Another hole filled.

I start after the stragglers who are taking off.

After about 9 shots, I think I leveled them. Bodies coming out. Carcasses laying on the hillside.

Another battle won.

Until a few days later. Damn Queen kept on going. I see that there were now 9 hills, located far away from Ground Zero.

Again, Same tactic. Spray without prejudice.

After a longer battle, I seem to have taken back control of my walkway. I sweep the bodies back into the crevices they cleared out with the gravel. Hopefully that sends a message to the queen.

Luckily, the weather's been cold. Queen better watch her step. I'm watching mine.

Rawlio's Worldcast- Now working.

The link for the show wasn't working. It's fixed.

And: I'm at home. Electrical is being done.

Next blog: Rawl vs. the Ants. This would be the spin-off to Sean's Spider war.

Dragon Boat, Podcasting, and some House stuff..

I'm sorry for the long pauses in the entries. Again, this house is quite a lot of work. All a labour of love.

I had my Pickering Dragon Boat race this past Saturday. It was good. The Club (WRCC) came in 6th and 17th overall, out of about 90 boats. I was on the boat that came in 17th. I'm not sure which sounds better. We came in 2nd in our division, which was the 3rd highest division at the race, but when you calculate the times, it's 17th overall. Not bad.

Sunday was me driving Dad to the Airport. He's now currently in Copenhagen to visit Jasse. I'm the only one left in Canada as it stands. It's just a weird thing to think about.

And Podcasting: I finally uploaded last weekend's Podcast of Brad's wedding. I also have another podcast from driving dad to the airport. I had some time, so I started podcasting.

I'll upload that later tonight or tomorrow, so you're not overloaded with worldcasts.

So far, still alive. Tonight's project on the house: wire up some under-cabinet lighting. On Tuesday, my friend Matt is upgrading the electrical to 100amp service, which will be in line with with standards.

Next huge project: Furnace.
