Back safe, and the Wii, and LInda's friend's Grandmother.

So, the trip from Ottawa was as I wanted. Uneventful. The trip in Ottawa was a different story.

Whilst in Ottawa, which we did get to safely (yes, Sean's an amazing driver. Very cautious, but that's good for a new driver), we chilled at his place.

I made him my Curry Chicken (I didn't have access to my curry), but it was good nonetheless. we recorded the new theme song to Rawlio's World. It'll be out soon, as Sean's currently in Post production for the tracks. Next time I go, I'll have a better idea of what and how I want to lay the tracks down. For a tease, Linda did the vocals!

When we got back, I went to my neighbor's house to play the Wii. Man, is that fun. We played to sports games, which are kinda hard The golf is quite fun.

Unfortunately while I had a good day, Linda's friend Melissa and her family did not. They lost their Grandmother to complications this morning. She was a young age of 88, but fought all the way to the end. I met her once, but I know she is resting now.

Christmas time is a crappy time to lose someone. Trust me, I now. Mom went into the hospital 2 years and 2 days ago. It kinda hurts to think about that time, but I'm much better about it.

I know I don't talk much about that ordeal, but it's not that I don't want to, but I think I'm over it. Yes, I do miss mom a lot. Especially with Jasse and the kids here. I always get choked up with Angeli and Beth, but It's just the way life is. Dad's still kickin' around good as ever. He's really hard to keep track of, but I'm glad he's still there. Yeah, we talk about mom often, and remember the things she used to do, and laugh (quite often!), but the holidays are just tough to lose someone you care for.

'Nuff said.

Wii Rocks, death sucks, and life will always keep moving.

Driving with sean

If you read Sean Wilson's blog, you'll know that Linda and I are heading to Ottawa with him.

he's got a brand new set of wheels and he wants some company for his inaugural trip to the capital. We happily inclined to join him.

Hopefully I'll be able to do some podcasting and some fun stuff for the one day trip. We're back on Saturday evening, so it's quite fast.

Happy Post Boxing Day

Yeah, so I've been busy with family. Jasse and his family, my family, Linda's family and turkey.

That's a good bit of family. And as for bing with so much family, you chat about things that are very seasonal, especially some common health myths.

Jasse found this article in the Globe and Mail, which I will post some of the article.

Check out the full thing here.

But here are some common health myths, somewhat debunked.

Drink at least eight glasses of water a day. There's a lack of medical evidence showing you need to down this much water daily.

This common prescription can be traced to a 1945 medical recommendation that stated: "A suitable allowance of water for adults is 2.5 litres daily in most instances. An ordinary standard for diverse persons is one ml for each calorie of food. Most of this quantity is contained in prepared foods."

If the last, crucial sentence is ignored, the statement could be interpreted as an instruction to drink eight glasses of water a day. Evidence suggests you can meet all your fluid needs through food and other beverages including juices, milk and even caffeinated drinks.

Shaving causes hair to grow back faster or coarser. Strong evidence disproves this common belief. Shaving removes the dead part of hair, not the living section below the skin's surface, so it can't affect the rate or type of growth. What's more, the stubble resulting from shaving grows out without the finer taper seen at the ends of unshaven hair, giving the impression of coarseness.

and finally, my favorite. I didn't know this one. Sorry Seinfeld, you were not correct on this one. But then again, that was at least 10 years ago.

Eating turkey makes people especially drowsy. This bit of ill-founded folk wisdom stems from popular reports that turkey meat is a rich source of tryptophan, an amino acid that plays a role in sleep and mood control. In reality, turkey has the same amount or less tryptophan than other sources of protein.

Rawli's New Shoes and a lack of a shower...

Before you stop reading because of your offended sense of smell, read on.

I just recently acquired some orthopedic shoes, and a new pair of shoes. The shoes look like my old pair, which are like 9 years old. I'm a sucker for the wing-tips, which are not really in fashion, or maybe I just haven't noticed they are not 'in'.

Are wing tips going out? My new shoes make me fell taller, and I feel better in them. Ah, the power of adjusting your feet.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for anew pair of shoes.

Oh, and this kinda got me going today. I went to the gym, and I wanted to work out, shave my head, and have a nice sweat in the Sauna. When I got to the gym, they were doing construction, so they decided to have the water off for the time I was there. No water = no shower, and I was not happy.

Argh! I can't go somewhere after and not shower from the gym.

I did half my workout, and left. Not being in the right head space really affected my workout.

New Podcast, and just a trip to Walmart

So, chekc out the new podcast. It's not a bad one. It's good, really. I seem to take about 10 minutes to get my groove on but this podcast was quite quick in what I wanted to talk about.

And tonight, Linda and I went to Walmart, for some stuff. We dropped some pictures off to get developed and I needed a new teapot because someone at work broke mine. As we were walking down the isles, i kinda got this intensity at the store. Not something bad, but just you can feel this intense vibe coming from everybody. Linda says it 's because everyone is freaking out for shopping for Christmas. Maybe because I'm not too worried, I'm ok when I go to the malls.

Weird. And a 24 hour walmart? man, that's nutty.

Snow Storm, 07

So, It's a Sunday morning, and I've already shoveled the driveway. I'm watching intently as my 45 minutes of work is all for naught.

According to the news reports, this storm should equal the Storm back in 1999, where it pretty much paralyzed Southern Ontario.

I was in London at the time, and it wa not a pretty time, weather-wise and other things. I shudder at the beginning of a very dark period of my life. Fortunatly it all ended really well, and I am happy that that chpater is over. Said and done!

I intend to stay put and not do anything, except maybe go out and get some food. Linda and I may go on a Walking Winter Adventure, to get some sugar and chicken. What seems like a safer option than to take the ol' Vibe-Rator or the Super Cavalier out. Which ironically, the Super Cavalier would handle this weather better than the Vibe, as it's got super traction control, and ABS.

oh well...Chicken HO!!!!

What's up with This?

I was scanning the Toronto Star, as I read it every day, and I came across Al Gore's acceptance speech in the paper. If you have a chance, read it. It's a really good read.

My favorite part is:

Sometimes, without warning, the future knocks on our door with a precious and painful vision of what might be. One hundred and nineteen years ago, a wealthy inventor read his own obituary, mistakenly published years before his death. Wrongly believing the inventor had just died, a newspaper printed a harsh judgment of his life's work, unfairly labeling him "The Merchant of Death" because of his invention - dynamite. Shaken by this condemnation, the inventor made a fateful choice to serve the cause of peace.

Seven years later, Alfred Nobel created this prize and the others that bear his name.

That's not what I want to talk about I want to talk about this:

Apparently the Auditor General came across some really bad things...

Dangerous drivers, tardy GO trains, a spotty sex offender registry and a health system that is not ready for a major outbreak of infectious disease - despite Ontario's experience with SARS - are targets of the provincial auditor-general's annual report today.

The 500-page document found a "significantly higher" collision rate for motorists who sign up for Ontario's voluntary beginner driver education program compared with those who don't take the course.

Auditors found that 55 per cent of first-time drivers enrolled in the program but crashed their cars about 62 per cent more often.

And yet, no one at the Ministry of Transportation has figured out why, Auditor-General James McCarter said in his first report since Premier Dalton McGuinty's government was re-elected to a second term Oct. 10.

What's going on?

Ugh, it's kinda scary. We always complain that the government is wasting our money, but this seems to really make it look bad. I'm all for being accountable to your people, especially with public money, but something like this is really off the wall. It's almost something you would find in the odd news section.

Photo Challenge

Things have been pretty good lately. I see that Britney has some issues with privacy, but being a superstar (yes, she's still a super star).

I also went on a weird rant on my podcast, so if you're curious, check it out.

But my big thing rig now is that I decided to try the Rick Mercer Photo Challenge. Here is the pic.

I'll let you know if I got chosen.
